LPU Coaches Win Jiu Jitsu World Championship

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Life Pacific's Women's Wrestling coaches, Javier Gonzalez and Monique Selva recently showcased their own personal ability to excel on the mat at the IBJJF No Gi World Championship. Over 4,000 participants came out to the Global tournament to make their claim as the world's best.

Gonzalez came into the event hoping to carry the experience earned from his 2015 World Championship title into this year's competition. Unfortunately for Coach Gonzalez, he found himself battling the flu as he chased his second championship. Despite the health concerns that he faced, Gonzalez was still able to find a way to win the tournament which crowned him as the 2019 IBJJFF No Gi World Champion.

Coach Monique Selva brought seven years of Jiu-Jitsu experience into the tournament and it proved to be a huge benefit for her. Selva won the Women's division and earned her first IBJJFF No Gi World Championship title. Coach Selva also was awarded a black belt as she stood on the championship podium.

The LPU Women's Wrestling coaching staff will look to impart their wisdom and experience that they have gained over the years onto their student-athletes as they chase a Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship this season. "We are blessed to still pursue our passions whilst training and serving alongside our athletes," said Coach Selva.
