Defense Propels Warriors to GSAC Sweep Over Royals
San Dimas, CA – On Friday evening, the Warriors faced off against the Hope International Royals for the second time this season. In the first matchup between the two teams, the Warriors opened conference play falling in 5 sets on the road. This time, things would be different, as the Warriors were dominant for all 3 sets, completing the sweep, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-14). With the win, the Warriors improve to 11-10 on the season and 2-5 in GSASC play.
Defense would prove to be the separator for LPU as they were able to control the tempo of the match due to the presence at the net and their receive. For the match, the Warriors had a season-high 17 blocks, as Kylie Proctor led the way with 7 blocks. Lilly Knight finished with 4 blocks as well as finishing 10 kills on the offensive end. The back-line receive and pass was fluid for LPU as senior libero, Kei'ana Pascua, paced the Warriors with 17 digs. Kate Smith finished with 12 digs and Emma McMillan also finished with 11 digs, as the Warriors combined for an impressive 53 digs in 3 sets. Offensively, the Warriors were led by Bailey Collette, who finished with 11 kills. Jadyn Armstrong led the way in the assist category as she finished with 19 assists along with 2 service aces. Taylor Wilson had an instant impact as she came off the bench to serve as she finished with 4 service aces, 3 of which finished off the 2nd set.
The Warriors will travel West to Santa Clarita as they take on The Master's University Mustangs tomorrow evening at 6pm PST.
