Warriors Take Down Mustangs in GSAC Opener

Santa Clarita, CA – Friday night featured the GSAC opener, between the Warriors of Life Pacific and Mustangs of Master's University.  The Warriors entered Conference play with an overall record of 9-2, while the Mustangs held a 9-4 record respectively.  The Warriors came out immediately as the agressors in the first set, ultimately setting the tone for the match.  Life Pacific ended up taking the first set by a final score of 25-17.  The Mustangs responded though in the second set and were able to come out with the victory in the 2nd set, by a narrow score of 26-24.  With the match tied at 1 set each, both of the teams looked to sieze the momentum for the remainder of the match.

Half way through the third set, the Mustangs carried a 12-4 lead, with things looking bleak for the Warriors.  LPU responded though to the adversity, and were able to even things up later in the set, 21-21.  Despite the slow start, they took the third set and took the momentum.  The Warriors did not look back and were able to put the Mustangs away in a close fourth set, ultimately taking the win for the match, 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-23, 25-23).

On the offensive side of things, the Warriors were led by the reigning GSAC Player of the Year, Hannah Caddow, who finished with 15 total kills.  Mackenzie Grooms finished with 8 kills as well, and freshman MB, Peyton Ertle, finished with 7 kills, while hitting an impressive .700.  Maddie Robertson and Lindsey Johnson paced the Warriors with their sets and their defense.  Robertson finished with 21 assists and 11 digs, while Johnson finished with 19 assists and 10 digs.  Defensively, Allison Ayala was the usual reliable and steady presence on the back line, leading the Warriors with 19 digs.
