Aces and Blocks Give the Warriors Upper Hand in First Round Defeat of OUAZ

San Dimas, CA – On Thursday evening, the #4 seed, LPU, faced off against #5 OUAZ in the Quarterfinals of the GSAC Volleyball Tournament.  The Warriors were faced with a tough first round matchup with getting the host team.  LPU did not waver throughout the match and were able to take the win, 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 25-27, 25-22).  The Warriors move on to the Semis of the tournament, taking on the #1 seed and regular season champs, Westmont College.  In the regular season, LPU split with Westmont, taking the road match in five sets and then dropping the second match in four sets a couple weeks later in the season.  LPU looks to continue it's historic season in their quest for a National Tournament bid!

 


 

 

The Warriors were led by their serves, as they had OUAZ out of position and off balance the entire match, racking up 14 aces on the night.  LPU was led by Emma McMillan, who finished with 5 aces and 13 digs.  Mackenzie Stewart, Daniela H'Orvath, and Lindsey Johnson all contributed 3 aces themselves, as the Warriors got off to their 2-set lead thanks to their ability to keep OUAZ off balance.  On the attack, Mackenzie Grooms led the way with 11 kills, while Hannah Caddow and Audrianna Guzman both finished with 9 kills.  Four different Warriors finished with double-digit digs as Allison Ayala finished the night with 21 digs.  Hannah Caddow finished the match with 16 digs, while Emma McMillan finished with 13 digs.  Daniela H'Orvath was key in the victory as she finished with 16 assists, 12 digs, and 3 aces from the setter's position.  One of the biggest factors in the Warrior's victory was the re-emergence of their dominant block presence.  Caitlin Riden finished the match with 6 blocks, while Audrianna Guzman and Mackenzie Stewart finished with 5 blocks.
