Warriors Outlast Royals in a Five Set Victory

San Dimas, CA – On Thursday evening, the Warriors faced off against Hope International Royals, who entered the match at 5-18 and 4-11 in GSAC play.  The first time around on September 23rd, the Warriors defeated the Royals in straight sets.  This match proved to be a tougher test, but LPU prevailed in 5 sets, taking the victory over the Royals, 3-2 (22-25, 25-11, 25-19, 23-25, 15-11).  With the victory, they improve to 13-6 on the season and 10-6 in the GSAC.

 


 

 

The Warriors were led on the attack by Mackenzie Grooms, who finished with her career mark in kills, as she finished with 17 kills on a .361 hitting percentage.  Hannah Caddow continued her consistent play, tallying 13 kills for the match, while making 16 digs as well, all to go along with 3 aces.  Lindsey Johnson was everywhere for the Warriors on Thursday, as she finished with 35 assists, 16 digs, 4 kills, and 2 aces.  Emma McMillan posted her career mark in digs, as she finished with 25 digs for the match.  Allison Ayala also contributed 19 digs, continuing her consistent play on the back line for the Warriors.

 

As Coach Wes Schneider reflected on Thursday's victory, he stated, "Tonight's match was a hard fought match between two good teams.  Hope really showed up ready to play and made tonight's match a challenging test.  The thing that I am the most proud about is that even amidst adversity, we were able to stay strong, stick together, and pull out a much-needed victory.  We got some big-time performances from Mackenzie Grooms, Lindsey Johnson, and Emma McMillan tonight.  So proud of our entire team and excited to see how we finish out this season with the GSAC tournament on the horizon!"
