Warriors Remain Undefeated at Home with Victory Over Menlo
San Dimas, CA – The Warriors entered the second half of GSAC play with sole possession of 2nd place, with a 7-2 record. On Friday evening, they took on Menlo College, who delivered the Warriors their first loss of the season back on the 17th of September. LPU was able to get the Oaks back with a 4 set victory on Friday evening (25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15). With the win, the Warriors improve to 11-2 overall and 8-2 in GSAC play.
From the start of the 1st set, the Warriors dominated defensively at the net, forcing the Oaks to commit 10 attacking errors in the set, while hitting -0.023. Seven different Warriors recorded a kill in the first set, making it difficult for the Oaks to anticipate where the attack was coming from. LPU was able to take the first set in a dominant manner, 25-13.
In the second set, the Oaks responded. In a set that was back and forth for the majority of the set, the Oaks were able to prevail, thanks to Janey Moala and Katharine Mumm leading the way with 6 kills each. They won the set 25-23, and evened things up with the Warriors.
About half way through the 3rd set, the Oaks had control with a 13-10 lead. The Warriors were able to take a timeout and respond with a service run by Mackenzie Stewart, that saw the Warriors take a 17-13 lead. Once LPU took the lead, they did not look back and were able to put the 3rd set away, 25-20.
The fourth set was complete dominance by the Warriors. They started the set with an 8-1 lead, forcing the Oaks to burn an early timeout. They did not take their foot off the gas pedal and were able to continue to build their lead to 15-4, forcing Menlo to take their final timeout. Marissa Ryerson came in and gave the Warriors a spark off the bench, in a set where LPU would finish 25-15. Five different Warriors (Bailey Collette, Mackenzie Grooms, Hannah Caddow, Mackenzie Stewart, Audrianna Guzman) finished with 8 or more kills, while being led by Caddow and Guzman who finished with 11 kills each. In an amazing accomplishment for LPU, Allison Ayala surpassed the 1000 career dig mark, as she tallied another 24 digs, marking an impressive 6 digs per set. Hannah Caddow had another 17 digs, while Emma McMillan also contributed 15 digs. Mackenzie Stewart played the role again of being a jack of all trades, as she finished with 8 kills, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 3 aces. Lindsey Johnson and Daniela H'Orvath continued their stellar play with distributing the ball around as Johnson had 24 assists and H'Orvath had 18 assists.
As Coach Wes Schneider reflected on the Warrior's latest GSAC win, he stated, "Just another hard fought match by our ladies. They were so impressive with how they took advantage of the opportunities that they had on the attack. It is awesome to see 5 different players finish with more than 8 kills, showing how unselfish the team is. We are playing winning volleyball right now and I am so proud of this team. It was awesome to see Marissa Ryerson come in off the bench and give us a huge spark in the final set. Looking forward to getting back to it tomorrow."
