Murray and Robertson Provided Spark off the Bench, Propelling Warriors to Four Set Victory Over Mustangs

San Dimas, CA – On Friday night, the Warriors faced off against their GSAC foe, the Mustangs of Master's University.  In a battle where both teams struggled with their attack, the spark made by freshmen, Kate Murray and Maddie Robertson, proved to be the main factor in helping LPU secure their 8th win of the season.  They took the match 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21), improving their overall record to 8-2 and 5-2 in the GSAC.

After getting off to an early lead of 15-9, the Warriors took their foot off the gas pedal.  Plagued by a couple attacking errors late in the set, they were able to allow the Mustangs to claw their way back into the set.  In a set where LPU hit .000 for the set, they ended up conceding to TMU, 23-25 in the first set.

In the second set, the Warriors did a good job of not allowing their play in the first affect how the second set would turn out.  They came out with the same energy that helped them establish an early lead in the first set, and got off to a 10-5 start, thanks to blocks by Caitlin Riden and Hannah Caddow, which fueled their defense.  Audrianna Guzman established herself at the net, capitalizing on key kills to help expand the LPU lead.  The Mustangs did not go away though, as they continued to make the Warriors earn every point.  After tying the set up at 19-19, LPU was able to pull away behind a big service run by Daniela H'Orvath.  LPU took the second set 25-19, evening the match at one set each.

The third set mirrored the theme of the previous sets, with LPU getting off to an early 13-7 lead.  Attacking errors is what allowed the Mustangs to climb back into the third set, as the Warriors failed to capitalize on open opportunities.  Master's took a late lead 21-20, after an attacking error by the Warriors.  The length of the Mustangs at the net was having a significant impact on the Warriors.  Although they gave up the lead late, the Warriors showed grit and were able to run off three straight kills by Bailey Collette, Guzman, and Caddow, to finish off the set 25-23.

As the Warriors entered the fourth set, with an opportunity to put the match away, freshmen Kate Murray and Maddie Robertson, came in and had an instant impact.  They sparked the Warrior's run in the fourth set as Robertson had 8 assists and 1 ace in the set, while Murray had 3 big-time kills and a couple digs to go along with it.  LPU was able to take the fourth set, 25-21, securing the win by a final score of 3-1.

As Coach Wes Schneider reflected on the Warrior's latest GSAC win, he stated, "What a hard fought match by both of the teams.  Our team as a whole was steady for the night, but the key factors were two of our freshmen, Kate Murray and Maddie Robertson, who came in and had an instant impact at a critical time in the match.  I'm so proud of them and the entire team, as we beat a really good Master's team tonight."
