LPU Volleyball 2022 Season Preview
San Dimas, CA - Life Pacific University's Volleyball team enter the 2022 season returning their entire starting lineup, minus the reigning GSAC Libero of the Year, Sydney Culpepper. Culpepper is now on the sideline, assisting Coach Wes Schneider, as he enters his first season at the helm. In 2021, the Warriors finished their season with an overall record of 22-9 and 12-6 in the GSAC. This record saw them finishing the season 3rd in the GSAC and on the cusp of making the National Tournament. The 2021 season was headlined by wins against multiple nationally ranked oponents. The Warriors defeated #20 ranked, Keiser University, early in the season, cementing themselves as a national threat. This resulted in the program receiving national ranking votes, and as they progressed throughout the year, LPU handed OUAZ their only GSAC loss of the season. LPU finished the season just short of their ultimate goal in making the National Tournament, but the 2021 season went down as a historic season for the LPU Volleyball program.
As they enter the 2022 season, they return notable starters from last year, led by NAIA All-American OH, Hannah Caddow, who looks to establish herself as the top outside hitter in the GSAC. Other notable starters that are returning from last year include Mackenzie Stewart, Allison Ayala, Bailey Collette, Audrianna Guzman, and Mackenzie Grooms. The setter's room returns the dynamic duo of Lindsey Johnson and Daniela H'Orvath, who are both known for their dynamic serve, leading the Warriors in aces in 2021.
The returners are joined by a recruiting class of five newcomers who are poised to make an immediate impact in the 2022 season:
- Emma McMillan is a 5-7 transfer libero from Montana Tech, who is originally from Corona, CA where she played volleyball in high school.
- Maddie Robertson is a 5-4 freshman setter, joining the Warriors from Upland High School.
- Stephanie Mosley is a 5-11 freshman outside hitter, joining the Warriors from Diamond Bar High School.
- Kylie Agnone is a 5-5 freshman libero, joining the Warriors from Northern California, where she attended Woodcreek High School.
- Kate Murray is a 5-10 freshman outside hitter, traveling all the way from Fairhope, Alabama, where she grew up and played her high school volleyball.
LPU kicks off their season next Friday, with an exhibtion match at La Sierra University. Following the exhibition, they travel to Westcliff University for their first official match, August 20th at 5:00pm. Their schedule features multiple contests against other NAIA opponents from the Cal Pac, along with matchups against NCAA DIII opponents as well. The conference schedule poses to be rigorous and competitive as it always is, with multiple GSAC programs having national attention in the pre-season. Despite returning nearly an entire team that finished 3rd in the GSAC last season, the Warriors open up in the GSAC Preseason Coaches Poll as the 8th ranked team in the conference. When discussing LPU's outlook on the season, the GSAC Office stated, "After finishing with a 12-6 conference record in 2021, Life Pacific has been picked to finish eighth by the GSAC coaches. The third set of Warriors are led by All-American Hannah Caddow. The senior was third in the conference avgering 3.40 kills per set last season. Don't be surprised if LPU finishes much higher than their preseason ranking."
Wes Schneider enters his first season as the Head Coach of the program, looking to build off of the solid season the Warriors had in 2021. When asked to share his thoughts about the upcoming season, Coach Wes stated, "I've been very impressed with the work ethic and digiligence of this team. They are fiercely competitive and we are looking forward to getting after it in conference."
