Warriors Defeat Cal Tech in Home Opener

San Dimas, CA - For the first time in three years, the Life Pacific Women's Soccer team hosted a home match at the San Dimas Sportsplex.  With the bleachers filled to the brim with anxious fans, the Warriors were able to pull off the victory with a 3-2 defeat of the Cal Tech Beavers.  With the win, the Warriors improve to 1-1 on the season.

The Beavers of Cal Tech struck first, scoring an early goal in the 2nd minute of the match.  LPU responded though with an impressive attack on the net, and ultimately scored in the 15th minute on a Brianna Figueroa goal, thanks to an amazing through ball from Ellyanna Edwards and then a touch from Mercedes Sibrian.  In the 41st minute, Suriya Gomez scored her first goal of the season, thanks to another amazing ball from Edwards.  Once the Warriors took the lead, they never looked back.  Mercedes Sibrian was consistent on the attack and was able to capitalize on a goal in the 48th minute, extending the Warrior's lead to 3-1.  The Beavers brought the score to 3-2, but thanks to outstanding play in the net by Brenda Alarcon and Peyton Reynoso, the Warriors took the match by a final score of 3-2.

Midfielder, Ellyanna Edwards, was impressive for the Warriors as she controlled the middle of the field the entire match.  She assisted on 2 of the 3 goals and put LPU in continuous opportunities to be on the attack.  Forwards, Brianna Figueroa and Mercedes Sibrian, had impressive matches themselves, as they both scored their first goals of the season, while also each having an assist.  Suriya Gomez had an immediate impact off of the bench as well, scoring her first goal of the season.  Brenda Alarcon made 3 saves for the match while Peyton Reynoso also made a save.
