Life Pacific Welcomes Back Two Familiar Faces to Athletics Staff

San Dimas, CA - With another exciting year of Athletics quickly approaching for Life Pacific University, we are excited to announce two new additions to the Athletics Staff. Life Pacific is excited to welcome Lead Assistant Volleyball Coach, Jasmine Broad, and Lead Assistant Women's Basketball Coach, Ariana Clavell.

Lead Assistant Volleyball Coach - Jasmine Broad

Jasmine Broad brings an extensive knowledge of coaching and playing to the program here at LPU. In her own high school volleyball career, Broad was part of a 3-peat undefeated league championship team, as a captain and league MVP in 2011. After high school, Broad went on to play at Mt. San Antonio College, and finished her athletic career at Life Pacific. Broad ended her career by making an appearance at the NCCAA national tournament for the first time in school history in 2018. Also in her college career, Broad was named 2 years in a row to the 2016 and 2017 NCCAA All Region D1 Women's Volleyball 1st Team. Broad has coached at the club and high school level for many years now, coaching varsity and starting a beach volleyball program at Western Christian High School.

What is your reason for coaching:

  • My reason for coaching has always been to be able to encourage, serve, and be an example to young women in a way that brings honor to Christ through our love for the game.

How did you get into coaching:

  • My first coaching experience was at a Forza1 north volleyball club, which then led into varsity assistant for the indoor volleyball program at Western Christian High School for the past four years. I also had an opportunity in helping to start up and lead the beach volleyball program at Western Christian.

Share a little bit about your testimony and how or if it connects to coaching:

  • I came to know the Lord at a young age, and sports was always my outlet in life. As a young adult the Lord taught me that my strength and hope is only in Christ and not my sport or my abilities. This connects to coaching because often times we, as athletes, have our identity in what or who we are in our sport. In reality as believers, it's in Christ. My prayer is that I can pass down what the Lord has taught me about my identity in Him and be able to show other young women how good our God is and how much He loves us through the art of coaching.

Quote for being hired at Life:

  • I'm blessed and excited to serve and cannot  wait to see all that the Lord does this season and this year. May Lord receive all the glory!
  • Colossians 3:23

Life Pacific University changed my life and now I get to walk alongside amazing women's basketball player and coaches who are going to change the world.

How did you get into coaching:

  • I got into coaching from watching my father, my uncle Joe Leon, coach Lew Ballard, and first ever college coach Bryanna Williams, take the time to mentor and pour into their players daily.

Share a little bit about your testimony and how or if it connects to coaching:

  • I played here at Life Pacific University my freshman year and two weeks before school started, I was diagnosed with lumbar degenerative disc disease. This disease is common in someone who is 65 years of age, but I was only 18 when I was diagnosed. I was devastated but I was so blessed to play my first and only year at the collegiate level here at Life Pacific University. I was able to finish my undergraduate degree and continue with my master degree when I was offered the Lead Assistant coaching position. God had opened a door that I would have never thought I would be open for me until this season.

Quote on being hired at Life Pacific:

  • It is an absolute honor to coach at the university that I received my degree from as well as started and ended my athletic career at. I am so thankful for Coach Kyler and Coach Claire for the amazing opportunity to learn and coach alongside them. I want to thank my incredible parents for continuously pushing me and believing in me. I, lastly, want to thank God for such an amazing and beautiful full circle moment.
